Polyvore Fantasyland: My Spring Recital Look

Next Friday, I'm giving a voice recital (*cue scary music and possibly some shrieks*). Since it's one of those rare occasions where I get to get all dolled up, I thought I'd share sort of what I'm wearing. I'll explain as we go along.

The dress is actually my dress. It's an Adrianna Papell that I think I may have possibly stolen from Belk, the sale was that ridiculous. It's hard to tell in this picture, but the bodice is covered in sequins and jewels. I feel a little like a mermaid in this dress, but in a good way. Oh--and that shawl is so not going around my neck. No, sir. Not no way, not no how.

Going clockwise, the necklace and earrings are not mine. The necklace I'm wearing is vintage, courtesy of my grandma, but this is extraordinarily close. My earrings are also vintage from my Aunt Joy. They're crystal drops with gold filigree, so these are similar enough for Polyvore purposes, anyway.

Next is NARS blush in Super Orgasm (sorry, Mom!). I'm actually having my makeup done for the performance, but if I were to do my own, and if money were no object (hence, the Polyvore fantasy), this is the blush I would choose from all the blushes in creation. One day, I will own this, and I will own it. Basically, it's the same as the regular NARS cult fave, but with extra sparkles, and honestly, who couldn't use a little extra sparkle in their life?

Again, these are not my shoes. My shoes are a pair I've owned forever and a day. If I'm going to stand for an hour, I'm going to be comfortable. However, were comfort not a factor, and I had all the money in the world, these Steve Madden beauties would be gracing my tootsies.

My nails will be painted...some color...that I already own, probably. This is just one that I thought would really compliment the outfit, and a lot better than anything rolling around in my nail bag.

Okay! These actually are the lashes I plan to wear next Friday! I ordered them from Hautelook during their last Urban Decay sale, and they should finally make it to my doorstep today! I'll let you know if they're really that gorgeous in person.

Last, but not least, is the eyeshadow I would wear, were I doing my own makeup. Technically, I do own this. Technically. It's coming to me from Hautelook, as well, and hasn't shipped, yet. I highly doubt it'll be here for Friday. That said, the crystallized colors perfectly capture the easy-going, slightly bohemian look I'm going for. Yes, this is a recital of classical music, but who on Earth said it had to be stuffy?!

They're Not Radioactive...Right?

I hadn't intended on having a theme this week, but it appears superheroes are the "in" thing. Who'd've thunk it?

With the new Spiderman movie (sequel? Reboot? Unnecessary retread?) due out this Summer, the nice folks over at O.P.I. have unveiled a new collection of nail polishes, inspired by the webslinger, himself.

The line consists of six shades: "Your Web or Mine?", a flirty bubblegum pink; "Into the Night", a metallic midnight blue; "Call Me Gwen-ever", a bubbly, bright tangerine; an edgy yellow-green metallic, "Just Spotted the Lizard"; a true white, "My Boyfriend Scales Walls"; and "Number One Nemesis", a pretty pewter.

"Your Web or Mine?" and "Number One Nemesis" are calling my name. The collection launches in May, 2012, just in time for bright, shiny Summer nail trends. I can just see "My Boyfriend Scales Walls" showcased on flip-flop wearing toes. Nicely done, O.P.I. Now, if only they came with superpowers...

Me Wants It, My Precious!!

Thomas found this today:

I am in desperate need of a manicure, and now I want this on my nails!

(and you can all just shut up about my never having seen all of the series. I can't help it if I fall asleep. It's not boring...it's peaceful. The elves are so pretty and calm, and they just put me right out.)

The "One Ring To Bind Them" quote reads in a circle, from left thumb to right thumb. According to the artist's tumblr, the base coat was Milani Gold Lame, and the artwork was done with black acrylic.

If you're interested in giving this a shot, any gold base will work. I'm partial to Sephora by OPI's Charge It! You'll also need either a black nail polish pen, or a black polish with a super skinny brush. Cinapro has a black nail pen available on Amazon. ENailSupply has a really neat option, as well: a pen/brush hybrid! You can either use the bottle as a pen, or unscrew the cap and use the itty-bitty brush that's inside. You'll also want to seal your work with a clear topcoat.

Personally, I'd suggest either having this done by an artist, or taking your time and painting the design onto false nails, then applying them later. I only say this because I cannot draw with my left hand. At all. I'd hate to get halfway through and not be able to finish well.

Here's a copy of the quote in Elvish, for reference. Good luck!

It's Time To Meet the Muppets

I am in so much trouble.

I thought it was bad when I realized I could use Sephora.com on my phone. Then, I thought it couldn't get any worse when the J.C. Penney across from my apartment added a mini-Sephora. I was wrong.

A great, big, shiny, gorgeous, brand-spanking-new Ulta opened up at the mall. It's walking distance from my door. No good can come of this.

Case in point: guess what's brand new, and only mere feet away--Muppet nailpolish from OPI! That's right; MUPPETS!!!!!!!!!! And it's all glittery!!!!! I am going to be so unbelievably broke...

The shades (everything from neutral bronze and safe berries on to blue, green, and rainbow confetti) carry names like "Warm and Fozzie", "Meep-Meep-Meep", "Excuse Moi", and "Rainbow Connection". Check out OPI's website to virtually try-on the colors and find retailers near you.
