Being Ghostly

It wouldn't do for me to be a ghost.  I can barely pull together an outfit alive and with a closet full of choices.  I'd be totally lost trying to reinvent the same outfit from day to day.

In case you're totally lost, one of my favorite shows is BBC's Being Human.  In it, a vampire, a werewolf, and a ghost walk into a bar...I'm sorry (one, for coming up with that joke.  Two, for using more than once).  Actually, they're roommates.  Seriously.  I know it sounds like a silly premise, but it really boils down to three people with extraordinary circumstances trying to lead ordinary lives.  The vamp's in a supernatural version of AA.  The wolf is coming to terms with his "time of the month", and our pretty little ghost is just trying to figure out what to do with her afterlife.  It's alternatingly humorous and dramatic, but always--always--very real.  The third series (or season, if you like) begins sometime this month on BBC Three.  No word as to when/if BBC America will air the run.

Now, for my point.  Annie, the ghost, passed away in her jammies.  Luckily for her, she had really good taste and went out in leggings, a tank top, cute slipper boots, and a rockin' sweater that can magically change to accommodate whatever situation she happens to be in.  Everytime she comes on camera, I think, "man, I want that sweater".  Well, actually, I don't think it.  I generally say it, then start furiously scouring the Interwebs for a reasonable facsimile.  I've been doing this for two years.  I realize that she just changes sweaters on the show, but I figured there had to be something close

I found it.  On a whim, Thomas and I took a day trip to the outlet mall New Year's Day.  They'd opened a BCBG Max Azria store (Me:  This is the company that makes that awesome dress I got at *salvage mart* for 90% off.  Thomas:  The one that was $300?  Me:  Yeah.  Thomas:  Why are in here again?)  and even though it's waaaaaay out of my price range, I wanted to step in and look at all the pretty shinies.

I looked around for about thirty seconds, saw the "sale" prices, choked on my own tongue, and started out the door when I saw it.  Heather gray, cashmere-blend, convertible, soft and gorgeous.  And $198.  *gulp*  I petted it for a second, sighed, and started to walk off again, when I saw the red markings on the tag.  $120, $89, $65, $49.  Wow!  It was still out of my budget, but wow, what a sale!  Somebody was going to get a great deal on that!  Then Thomas pointed out the sign in the window:  All Apparel 50% Off.  No kidding.  That darn near $200 sweater was on sale for $25.  They had one medium, and it was going home with me!  However, the one medium didn't come with the instructions for the different ways you could wrap it.  What the hey, I thought.  Thomas and I are both college graduates.  Surely, between the two of us, we can figure this thing out.

Wrong.  Oh, so very, very wrong.  I've spent two days wrapping myself up in this thing.  I've Googled.  I've Yahoo-ed.  I've all but used duct tape.  I've been beaten by a piece of fabric.

Thankfully, while trying to find an online retailer for you guys, I ran across a site with pictures of how to wear this.  I'm posting the link here, partially so you guys can see, and partially so I can come back here and take notes.  Being a ghost sure is complicated.

Oh--for all of us Stateside folks, the American version of Being Human starts January 17th, 9/8c, on Syfy.

Tomorrow:  Probably a review of teen comedy Easy A.  I assure you, it's way better than you think.
